Investigation Five

Investigation Five was set by Master Steve Winter, founder of the Old Vic New Voices company and programme director of the Kevin Spacey Foundation

Steve set the students the brief to explore writing for verbatim, inspired by the Old Vic New Voices first community production Housed.

The project began with students meeting Steve for one to one meetings.

Students then attended auditions for Housed at the Old Vic Theatre, selecting the actor they wished to work with on the project.

Students then met with their actors at the Old Vic offices, interviewing their chosen subject over the course of an evening.

The students were then tasked with the challenge of creating ten minute verbatim pieces from these conversations, using only one or two characters.

Lucy Kerbel, Director of Tonic Theatre and the author of 100 Plays for Women directed these piece for a private showing, followed by Steve working with students to draw conclusions about what they had learnt via the verbatim investigation.
